April is Sexual Assault Awareness month.  One of the most of-repeated phrases repeated regarding rape is that dressing in a sexy, provocative way causes rape.  This is not true.  Rapists cause rape.  Nobody invites sexual assault, and no victim should ever be blamed.  So to highlight this issue, today we’re featuring clothing that are meant to cause a scandal- but do not invite rape.

“Society teaches ‘Don’t get raped’ rather than ‘don’t rape.’”

Has anyone thought of the fact that, by this logic, you’re saying that theft is caused by thieves, and it’s not your fault for leaving your brand new iphone out on the train and walking away… women are not (generally) helpless, unintelligent beings. It’s still important that women ARE “careful enough”, recognize that certain actions and types of clothing MAY attract the wrong people/attention, know what their drinking limit is, and to stay out of dangerous places. 

I’m sorry did you just compare rape to an iphone being stolen? This is the kind of logic that is fueling the blame the victim ideology. Theft and rape can’t be compared period. An iphone is a material item with a momentary value and that can easily be replaced. There is so much that is taken from the rape victim that can never be replaced. You can’t replace the loss of security, dignity or worth. The victim has to live the rest of their life knowing that what was taken was far more valuable than a stupid technology device. 

So tell the rape victim that was walking home on their presumably safe college campus that they were in the wrong place. Tell the rape victim that drank diet coke that night that they were drinking the wrong drink. Tell the rape victim whose clothes were ripped from their body that they were wearing the wrong thing.

Rape is not as easily avoidable as you are making it out to be. No clothing, place or action warrants rape ever.

How is this not racist? Also does he know what children of mixed race couples feel? I have to say I’m very grateful to be of mixed heritage, it allows me to take and mix all my heritage to make a complete new one. I never once thought I was suffering because of my mixed nationality. I find mixed children to be among the most beautiful in the world. It breaks down so many boundaries and cultures. I really wish these people would stop justifying their racism by saying they have “black friends.” So what? Just because you have something doesn’t mean you like it.

These mostly handmade iphone cases from Groove are made of bamboo. For $69 these cases offer protection for the phone while providing a eco-friendly alternative. For $99 you can get a custom laser engraved artwork on the back of the case. They also have cases with art already engraved into them. They offer cases and skins for the iPad as well starting at $29 for the skins and $79 for the cases.

Sure it’s more on the expensive side for a case, but having a custom handmade eco-friendly iphone case is pretty cool… and somewhat brag worthy.

Annoyingly Grateful

So I used to have a client that was incapable of seeing designs concepts in their well conceptual stage. Anyone who’s ever done concepts knows that usually they are very rough to give the idea of where the design is to go. However due to their lack of imagination I often had to create fully designed concepts (usually 2-3 concepts). At the time I found it rather dumb at the time and a waste of billable hours. The budget would often get eaten up due to having to design to such lengths for concepts. Something that could possibly not even be used. It seemed crazy… it was crazy. Soon it just became habit to create hi-res concepts. 

Which brings me to today… I have a project. Not a large project but it is heavily involved (lots of hours typesetting etc). As the deadline approaches and another project soon became a rush project kept pushing this project back. I became completely stressed out. Then I looked at the concept the client picked… and suddenly realized that these files are almost ready for print. 

I’ve never been so thankful for an annoying request from a client than today.
