Took a while but finally figured out which were my favorite albums of 2010. A lot different than top 10 songs.
1. Mumford and Sons - Sigh No More
Possibly the best album of the year, a true musical experience from beginning to end. Not only is the music amazing the lyrics are original, deep and creative. If you haven’t gotten this album this is a must have.
2. Vampire Weekend - Contra
I liked Vampire Weekend with their last album, but it was with Contra that they fell into my top and favorite artist list. This is a band that I’m sure will get better with each album
3. Yeasayer - Odd Blood
After I did my Top 10 songs I wanted to amend it to add Yeasayer to it. This album came out earlier in 2010 and fell off my radar for a while. But it’s a great album with a nice blend of rock and electronic music. Yeasayer is a great band that can easily fall under the radar, don’t underestimate this band.
4. Matt & Kim - Sidewalks
Matt & Kim does it again, can this duo ever make a bad album? Hope I’m not jinxing it. But “Sidewalks” is another fine example of this band’s catchy tunes, which I don’t mind getting stuck in my head.
5. Guggenheim Grotto - The Universe is Laughing
I’ve loved Guggenheim Grotto for quite some time now, but it was with their last album “Happy the Man” that placed them into my favorite bands list. The Universe is Laughing is a nice step away from their previous albums as it’s more softer. A great album to sit back and relax to.
6. Girl Talk - All Day
Some say All Day isn’t as good as Girl Talk’s previous releases, but I disagree. The mashups between pop, hip-hop and rock works so well who would of figured? This album makes the list duly because when each song blends so well together that you can’t but help listen to this album as a whole.
7. Passion Pit - Manners
If it’s not noticable by now I tend to lean toward more electronic/rock sounding bands. Passion Pit is an amazing band that seemed to have exploded onto the scene. “Manner’s” is an amazing album that’s sure to get you dancing in some form or another.
8. Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid
I’m not a big R&B fan but this album is amazing, such soul and passion. 2 traits not commonly found anymore in mainstream music.
9. The Bird and the Bee - Interpreting the Masters Vol. 1
Classic and must have album. Taking Hall & Oates greatest hits and putting a “Bird and the Bee” style to them. Great, genius, love it.
10. Robyn - Body Talk pt1 &2
I love Robyn, and Body Talk series (there are 2 parts) is how electronic pop should be done. She is one of those artist who just keeps getting better which each progressive album.
